We were approached to design a replacement dwelling for the client's existing bungalow. The site located near Cardinham woods, surrounded by rural scenery.

 

Our client had specific needs which we tailored to our design. A central entrance connects the two elements of the proposal, an open plan 2 bedroom contemporary dwelling on the right and an annex to the left finished traditionally in a contrasting white render. Allowing our client privacy whilst also the necessary proximity to provide care for his grandmother who will live in the annex.

 

The sites rural context was a key factor in material selection. Black timber cladding ties the new house into the landscape, whilst combining this with traditional Cornish styles of natural slate and white painted render. Large contemporary glass openings reflect the surrounding landscape and provide a continuous inside out connection.
